FICCI’s active participation in resolving the pressing problems of empty container returns and high charges.

To address the concerns of its members, the directors of the FICCI arranged various meeting with government agencies concerned namely, Sec. Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry and Sec. Karlo Nograles, Cabinet Secretary, Office of the President. The directors are also actively participating in various fora organized and arranged by the government in order to come up with a solution to the pressing problems of empty container returns and high charges. FICCI joins other stakeholders in promoting efficient, transparent and cost-effective international shipping and logistics and in proposing solutions to eliminate congestion or bottlenecks and facilitate the movement and storage of cargoes in order to upgrade the competitiveness of our country.
FICCI submitted its comments to the Joint Administrative Order drafted by the Department of Trade and Industry regarding “Regulating the Application of Local Charges (origin and destination fees) imposed by international shipping lines to comply with existing laws and international commercial terminology establishing guidelines therefore and to improve productivity in the handling of cargoes.”
